Final Poster

200 Word Summary of Design Revised

The concept of public space is interpreted differently in different areas and cultures. ‘Immerse in Yourself’ is a concept for transformative public space, connecting the two cultural sides of the River Spree in Berlin, Germany. Designed as a space to connect Holzmarkt and Eisfabrik the design concept begins with the notion of social interaction. It encourages social interactions of everyday living through movement to allow trade, discussion, exchange of information, and performance. To capture these moments of interactions the users consider the influence of there own bodies in the space through reflection.  This means the audience and the performer are made aware of each other due there movement in the space between the paths widening and closing leading to the wider city. The moving platforms allow for the space to be changed and altered when it is suited, creating a performance in itself while making the river accessible.  These platforms make for a changing environment, which is an idea Berlin embraces. This public space allows for the Berlin culture to grow and explore each other, while allowing the practical use for space, between the city.

Final Poster Fix Ups

I needed to add the sense of flow and movement through the space, and also make the design clear with the water.
It was hard to fit all these images on the page as my design was so large and they had to be to the right scale.
I managed to fit it all onto the poster and it all lows together now.

200 Word Summary of Design

The concept of public space is interpreted differently in different areas and cultures. I have offered in this design a space of transformation that gets away from the tradition social interactions of everyday living happening in coffee shops and cafes, that are away from the river side behind a transition walk way in the Holzmarkt. Building onto the developing Berlin culture the two sides of the River have been brought together to encourage different social interactions; trade, discussion, exchange information, performance. Capturing the idea of awareness through water as users move through the space, the audience and performer are made aware of each other due to the close interaction of paths widening and closing leading to the wider city. The moving platforms allow for the space to be changed and altered when it is suited, creating a performance in itself and also to still make further up river accessible.  These platforms make for a changing environment which is an idea Berlin embraces. This public space allows for the Berlin culture to grow and explore each other, while allowing the practical use for space, between the city while incorporating the River Spree.

Feedback:
- adding people into the drawings to get a sense of how the space works
- add section cut lines
- don't need to diagrams of different levels as they are only stairs
- explore the diagrams of the platforms moving
- site plan with watercoloured texture
- all drawings to scale
- one large elevation showing the space

Drawings

I wanted the focus of my design to be apparent in my design, I wanted the movement of the space and the movement of the water to be my main focus. I have chosen to paint/water colour my images to add the depth of movement.

Drawings for Poster

As my design is about the movement of people and movement of water, I didn't want the lines of the design to be heavy and solid and take over the space so looked at sketchy lines.

I want to draw into these images to create my final drawings for the poster.

Final Sketch Up Design

Final sketch up model. This only shows the structure and not the sense of the water and the movement in this space. I will have to show this in the presentation of the design.
